Art, bikes and my future.

June 9, 2008

I’m really bad at this blog thing. I have had several rides on the bike and the bus and the combination of the two but the writing part has been lame. As of today I’m not sure what the frequency of bus riding will be to work since I’m not sure I will be working for much longer at the Arvada. All of the exhibitions are up, “Spokes”, ironically the summer show about bicycles and art will be my last exhibition with Arvada. I made a sign out of old bike parts, including a spinning 20″ front wheel.

The show had such potential to be an interesting exhibition of artists making contemporary art about bikes. It ended up with three interesting works that feel entirely out of place amongst the much more conservative 2-D works and sculptural adaptations of bikes.

As for my own work I have not received a two month overdue contract from DIA (Denver International Airport) for the public art project I was expecting to finish by the Democratic National Convention here in Denver. If anyone has any hints on how to deal with this type of aggravation, please don’t keep it secret.

So for my future work this summer I am open to suggestions. I am considering all options at this point. It would be nice to get a high paying job being a bike messenger in Boulder, but I have yet to see any openings for it.

This year so far I have logged into Bike City these stats:

90.08mi / 144.97km

National Bike to Work Day

May 16, 2008

Today is National Bike to Work Day.  Get your bike out and ride.  I can’t quite ride all the way to work since it would take about 3 hours.  But I’ll ride to the bus stop.

Home

May 8, 2008

on the bus going home today there were some punk skaters talking bad about old ladies. before they got on the bus an older woman gave a young man a dollar to ride the bus because all he had was a fiver. Before that the older woman asked me what time it was.

On the next bus the driver pulled over on the freeway to pick up a few stranded people.

Biking was windy. 4 miles in 20 minutes.

A new Biking Day

May 8, 2008
Today is officially the first day that I am logging in a bike/bus day. Rode to the Table Mesa Park and Ride. Approximately 4 miles in 23 minutes. Noting too exciting on the ride. Thought that my tire was soft but realized that I was just going uphill. But anyway here are a few pictures from my phone. My commuter bike and the bus.

Guilty

May 7, 2008

I feel guilty for not taking the bus or riding the bike.  Today it is bad weather, well, for Colorado, rainy and wet.  Listened to NPR on the way in, they talked about Obama and Hilllary and how they won/lost by landslides and margins.  Typical news.  Tried to take the driving thing to the extreme by going to a drive-thru starbucks but found that more than 15 other drivers did the same thing.  I got out and went in and bought a coffee.

Today I’m taking neither

Unfortunately I am not bussing or biking today.  Ariel has to work early and it is raining out.
